Design and Customisation

We’ll help you design a building that fits your lifestyle. Partition walls, log stores, garage doors and first floors can be incorporated and we offer four cladding options: oak or larch in either waney-edged or feather-edged profiles.

With unlimited bay combinations and the flexibility to add features such as log stores, staircases, windows and doors, each structure can be tailored to your specific needs.

Each build is designed to complement your home and setting, with flexibility built into every stage — from head clearance to door placement — so your space is truly fit for purpose.

Construction Details & Practical Advice

Our oak frames are crafted using traditional joinery techniques secured with oak pegs for strength and longevity. We typically assume the structure will sit on a 225mm high dwarf wall (built by others), which helps keep the timber clear of the rain splash zone.

The front elevation includes set-back bracing, allowing garage doors to be added now or at a later stage. We recommend a standard head clearance of 2.1m, but we can increase this for larger vehicles, including 4x4s with roof racks — just ask us for a tailored quote.

Garages for electric cars

As electric vehicle users ourselves, we champion renewable energy and clean air. We’ll support your building design to include solar panels, battery storage and EV charging. We can also recommend a trusted local installer to advise on orientation, shading, roof pitch and cabling—ensuring your project is ready from the start.

Timber Specification

We use FSC or PEFC-certified timber, prioritising UK-grown wood where suitable. Oak frames include robust posts, beams and braces. Softwood studwork is C24 grade, treated for durability. Cladding is available in feather-edged or waney-edged profiles, in oak or larch, to suit your preferred aesthetic and building requirements.

Installation – How we do it

If you’re within an hour of our Malmesbury workshop in Wiltshire, we can install the frames for you. Alternatively, we can supply most designs as ready-to-assemble kits for your builder or carpenter to install, complete with full drawings, numbered components and clear installation guidance. We’re always happy to help — just ask for a quote.
